Soccer teams sweep Blinn, Angelina

The Tyler Junior College soccer teams swept back-to-back Region XIV Conference matches over the weekend on Pat Hartley Field.

The Apache Ladies (3-0) defeated Blinn 6-0 on Friday and Angelina 1-0 on Saturday.

The Apaches won over Blinn 1-0 on Friday and Angelina 3-0 on Saturday.

WOMEN

Longview's Selma De Luna and Viktoria Adams each scored two goals to help lift the No. 2 Tyler Junior College Apache Ladies the 6-0 win over Blinn.

Also scoring goals for the Apache Ladies were Patricia Estupinan and Carla Garcia. Adding assists were Estupinan, Natalie Martinez, Isabel Kopp, Alexia Moreira, Hitomi Yamaue and Adams.

In the win over Angelina, Mukarama Abdulai scored an unassisted goal. TJC had 27 shots overall with 11 on goal. The Lady Roadrunners had three shots.

MEN

Jack McCourt scored on a penalty kick in the 31st minute to lift No. 4 Tyler Junior College to a 1-0 win over Blinn.

"I was pleased how we improved from the first game to the second," TJC coach Steve Clements said. "We still have a long way to go."

On Saturday, TJC's goals were from Thaabit Baartman (unassisted), Karsimi Konneh (Tamar Clayon-Naute assist) and Dylan Bufton (Raul Carillo assist).

Carl Koester was in goal for the clean sheet.

Both TJC teams will be home on Tuesday, hosting Hill College in a doubleheader. The women play at 5 p.m., followed by the men at 7 p.m.
