Tyler, TX - Despite facing tough back-to-back conference losses, the Tyler Junior College Apaches continue to demonstrate resilience and strong individual performances.
Over the past week, the Apaches fell in two challenging matchups. They first faced Bossier Parish on the road, suffering a narrow 77-80 defeat, and followed that with a 44-63 loss at home on Saturday against the Angelina Roadrunners.
In the game against Bossier Parish, the Apaches showed their grit, entering the second half tied 37-37. Despite their best efforts, they struggled to close the gap in the final minutes, ultimately falling short by just three points. However, several players stood out in the loss, including Luis Gil, who contributed 18 points off the bench, Josiah Hill, who posted a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds, and Joey Brown, who added 12 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists, and 2 steals. The Apaches maintained an impressive shooting percentage, making 28 of their 54 attempts for an efficient 51.9%.
The Apaches' second setback came against the Angelina Roadrunners, with Tyler Junior College trailing by just one point at halftime (24-23). However, the team struggled in the second half, where they were outscored 39-21, leading to the final 63-44 score. Their shooting percentage also took a hit, dropping from 51.9% against Bossier Parish to just 31.9% in this contest.
A key factor in the loss to Angelina was the inability to get consistent scoring and rebounding from key players. Despite the close first half, no Apache player reached double digits in scoring or rebounding, which hindered their offensive flow and defensive presence.
While these back-to-back losses were tough, the Apaches continue to build experience and will look to bounce back in their upcoming games, knowing that strong individual performances and team cohesion will be key to future success.
