TJC Wagstaff Holiday Classic Basketball Tournament: December 27-28, 2024
The annual Wagstaff Holiday Classic basketball tournament, now named in honor of the late Coach Wagstaff, has become a cherished tradition.
Coach Wagstaff brought a legacy to Tyler Junior College as big as Texas itself. Under his leadership, the Apaches basketball team achieved incredible success, winning 743 games and advancing to the national championship tournament 11 times. His teams captured two national titles and finished as runners-up twice. Recognized for his contributions to athletics, Coach Wagstaff was inducted into five athletic halls of fame, inspiring countless coaches and former students nationwide.
This remarkable legacy continues through the Wagstaff Holiday Classic, a tradition Coach Wagstaff started in 1953. The event was created to provide high school teams in East Texas with an opportunity to compete at Tyler Junior College during the holiday break, preparing them for district play.
Coach Wag would be proud of the sportsmanship and competitive spirit showcased in the recent year's classic, as the tournament carries forward the values he held dear.
This year's tournament will take place on Friday, December 27th, and Saturday, December 28th, 2024, featuring an exciting lineup of high school basketball teams. Tickets are available for $10 for adults and $5 for students.
The tournament will be held at the Wagstaff Gym, with games scheduled in two sessions each day. Please note that the gym will be cleared between sessions.
Friday, December 27th
Session 1: (First team listed is the HOME team and will wear light uniforms)
- 1:00 PM: All Saints Episcopal Trojans vs. Henderson Lions
- 2:15 PM: Cumberland Academy Knights vs. Whitehouse Wildcats
SESSION BREAK – Gym cleared between sessions
Session 2:
- 5:00 PM: Grace Community Cougars vs. Bishop TK Gorman Crusaders
- 6:15 PM: Tyler High Lions vs. Brownsboro Bears
- 7:30 PM: Brook Hill Guard vs. Tyler Heat
Saturday, December 28th
Session 3: (First team listed is the HOME team and will wear light uniforms)
- 1:00 PM: Cumberland Academy Knights vs. Bishop TK Gorman Crusaders
- 2:30 PM: Henderson Lions vs. Grace Community Cougars
