Kaliyah Matthews's Clutch Hitting Propels TJC Apaches To Victory Over Blinn College Buccaneers

Kaliyah Matthews drove in four runs on two hits to lead TJC Apaches past Blinn College Buccaneers 9-7 on Monday. Matthews hit a home run to left field in the third inning, scoring three runs, and singled in the sixth inning, scoring one.

Blinn College Buccaneers got on the board in the top of the third inning after B Boetjer hit a sacrifice fly, R Welker singled, and K Harms singled, each scoring one run.

Matthews homered to left field, which helped TJC Apaches tie the game at three in the bottom of the third.

A solo home run to left field by Sydney Farmer gave TJC Apaches the lead, 4-3, in the bottom of the fifth.

Blinn College Buccaneers made the score 7-4 in the top of the sixth after E Castillo doubled, scoring one run, Boetjer doubled, scoring two runs, and Harms singled, scoring one run.

TJC Apaches flipped the game on its head in the bottom of the sixth, scoring five runs on three hits to take a 9-7 lead. The biggest blow in the inning was a double by Jordyn De Los Santos on the sixth pitch of the at-bat that drove in two.

Kearston Gooch started the game for TJC Apaches. The lefty gave up five hits and three runs over two and one-third innings, striking out none and walking three. P Welker stepped in the circle first for Blinn College Buccaneers. The starting pitcher allowed six hits and four runs over five and two-thirds innings, striking out four and walking three. Makenzie Bohannon and Sierra Ouellette each appeared in relief for TJC Apaches. 

Farmer and Matthews were a force together in the lineup, as they each collected two hits for TJC Apaches while hitting back-to-back. TJC Apaches had a strong eye at the plate, piling up four walks for the game. TJC Apaches turned one double play in the game.

Blinn College Buccaneers tallied 13 hits in the game. Boetjer drove the middle of the lineup, leading Blinn College Buccaneers with three runs batted in. They went 1-for-3 on the day. Leadoff hitter H Hughes led Blinn College Buccaneers with three hits in five at bats. Castillo, Harms, and Welker each collected multiple hits for Blinn College Buccaneers. Castillo paced Blinn College Buccaneers with two walks. Overall, the team had patience at the plate, accumulating seven walks for the game.
