Apache Ladies win big at Coastal Bend

BEEVILLE — Lillian Jackson and Kiana Bennett had double doubles in sparking the TJC Apache Ladies to a 97-68 victory over Coastal Bend on Wednesday in a Region XIV women's basketball game.

Jackson had 22 points and 10 rebounds, while Bennett added 21 points and 10 boards. Also in double figures scoring for Tyler Junior College were Amari Welch (14), Fenishka Bertho (13) and Shalayne Morgan (10).

Others scoring for the Apache Ladies were Fanta Kone (7), Dacia Bostic (4), KeleChi Dike (2), Grace Ezebilo (2) and Scejeonna Anderson (2).

Kone had 11 assists, nine rebounds and five steals.

The Apache Ladies improve to 16-12 overall and 7-7 in Region XIV. The Lady Cougars fall to 8-19 and 3-10.

In other women's games on Wednesday: Angelina 87, Paris 63; Blinn 63, Panola 49; and Kilgore 86, Jacksonville 46.

The TJC teams are home on Saturday as both are playing host to Panola College. The women's game is set for 2 p.m. and the men will play at 4 p.m. The Fillies are 13-13 and 6-7. 

Other games on Saturday include: Coastal Bend at Angelina (19-9, 11-3), 2 p.m.; Trinity Valley (20-5, 10-3) at Kilgore (17-10, 10-3), 2 p.m.; and Paris (7-20, 3-10) at Jacksonville (2-23, 0-13), 2 p.m. Blinn (20-8, 10-4) has a bye.
