After back-to-back big games against rivals Trinity Valley and Blinn, the Apache Ladies were due for a let down.

It appeared that is what happened to Tyler Junior College on Saturday as the Apache Ladies dropped a 68-62 Region XIV women's basketball contest to Paris Junior College at Wagstaff Gymnasium.

After a loss to Trinity Valley, TJC went on the road and defeated Blinn in Brenham. The momentum from that victory could not be sustained in the home appearance.

Tyler is now 11-7 on the season and 2-2 in Region XIV, while Paris improves to 6-11 and 2-1.

TJC started out slow, but had a 32-26 halftime lead. However, the Lady Dragons owned the third period, outscoring the Apache Ladies 20-10 to take a 46-42 advantage.

With 8:21 remaining in the game, Madison Walters' bucket up Paris up 53-42.

The Apache Ladies eventually got within 60-58 on a basket from Alexandria Jefferson and two free throws from Amyia Bowie with 2:04 remaining in the game.

However, TJC could get no closer.

Fenishka Bertho led Tyler with 18 points and Bowie added 12 points.

Others scoring for TJC were Shalayne Morgan (8), Kiana Bennett (7), Lillian Jackson (5), Kamora Jackson (4), Grace Ezebilo (4), Jefferson (2) and KeleChi Dike (2).

Bowie had nine rebounds and seven steals. Bertho had seven boards and two blocks. Lillian Jackson and Dike added six and five rebounds, respectively.

Walters led Paris with 20 points, followed by Mikiya Howe (12) and Mya Jones (11).

Also scoring for PJC were Azariah Bryant (8), Zachareia Sommers (7), Allison Reese (4), Zacyria Dozier (3) and Bryce Harvey-Carr (3).

TJC was 15 of 25 at the free throw line and 1 of 17 from 3-point (Bennett).

PJC was 19 of 32 at the free throw line and 3 of 16 from 3-point (Dozier, Harvey-Carr, Walters).

In other results on Saturday: Trinity Valley 85, Coastal Bend 53; Blinn 65, Angelina 57; and Panola 55, Jacksonville 33.

The Apache Ladies return to play on Wednesday, traveling to Lufkin to meet Angelina in a 5:30 p.m. contest.
