COACHES CORNER INTERVIEW

Corey Rose has led the Tyler Junior College women’s soccer program since its inception, starting the program from scratch in 2008. His collegiate head coaching career started at Belhaven University in Jackson, Mississippi.  He served as head women’s soccer coach from 2003-2007 before coming to start the women's program at Tyler.    

Since coming to Tyler, Coach Rose has compiled over 300 career victories as TJC head coach. Entering the 2023 season, he has led the TJC women's program to a 297-24-11 (.911) record, with 12 appearances in the NJCAA National Tournament (10 straight and played in National Championship game 9 out of 12) ... TJC has recorded 16 consecutive winning seasons during this stretch dating back to the start of program in 2008…... coach Rose led the Lady Apaches to their first National Championship in 2009 (programs second year of competition)… under coach Rose the Lady Apaches have been the National Champions 5 times (back to back in 2019 and 2020) 2009, 2011, 2017, 2019, and 2020…Rose has been named United Soccer Coaches National Coach of the Year 5 times.

ADDITIONAL COACHING EXPERIENCE
Coached Warsaw High School boys soccer team for 6 years 1993-1998… Coached Club teams in Indiana, Texas, and Mississippi … also an assistant coach at Midwestern State for the men’s program in 2001-03, helping them to the Elite 8 in 2002 and two Conference Championships … Coach Rose is currently the NJCAA Coaches Association President for Women’s Soccer... also a Board Member for FC Dallas ETX club.

PRIOR TO TJC
Earned bachelor's degree in 1993 at Grace College … four-year starter, four-year letterwinner and was team captain as a senior for the Lancers … played on the Lancer team that reached the NCCAA National Tournament in 1991 … still ranks 7th in goals and 7th in total points at Grace College…1991 NCCAA All American… 1989 graduate of Lakeland Christian Academy …  he and wife Tammy, a National Champion Cheer Coach at TJC , have one son, Macguire (graduated from Univ of Arkansas and is an engineer), and two daughters, Kennedy (played for her dad in 2014 and 2015, was a NJCAA All Amercian, graduated from SFA, also played Pro in Khazakstan for 3 years) and Emerson (is in her senior year at Univ of Arkansas)

DOMINATING in Region 14
TJC won its 12th Region 14 regular-season title in 2022 with a 14-0 record ... also went 14-0 to win the 2021 and 2020 titles ... have won the Region 14 title eight straight seasons ... claimed the Region 14 Championship title in 2022 for the 12th trophy out of 15 years. TJC owns a record of 129-11-2 (3 losses in first year) in Region 14.

THE WINNING STREAKS
TJC set a program and NJCAA record with a 52-game winning streak spanning the 2019 and 2021 seasons ... won Back to Back National Championships 2019 and 2020.

Has a 52-game winning streak against Region 14 teams. Last loss was to Navarro College on October 22, 2019.

Pat Hartley Complex
Since the programs start in 2008, the women’s soccer team has gone 79-5-5 for a .916 winning percentage ... hosted NJCAA Women’s National Championship games at Pat Hartley in 2009. Turned out to be the programs 1st National Championship.

Entering the 2023/24 season, Rose has a career winning percentage of .911 is No.2 all-time (.922 for Tracey Britton at Monroe CC in 9 seasons) in NJCAA history across all divisions and 1st among active head coaches ... among active NJCAA coaches, winning percentage is No.1 and 297 victories is No.4… 297 wins is No.6 all-time in NJCAA history
