In their latest matchup, the TJC women's basketball team showed grit and determination on both ends of the court, but their efforts ultimately fell short. While they couldn't secure the win, the Apaches displayed both individual and collective strengths that will serve as a foundation for improvement moving forward.
Key Player Contributions:
Taler Thornton was the standout performer for TJC, leading the team with 15 points and 5 rebounds. She shot an efficient 6-of-11 from the field, including 1-of-3 from three-point range. Thornton also contributed with 2 assists, showcasing her all-around game and making a significant impact on both offense and defense.
Grace Ezebilo put together an impressive double-double, finishing with 10 points and 10 rebounds. She was particularly dominant on the boards, grabbing 6 offensive rebounds, and also dished out 4 assists. Though her shooting was off (5-of-13), Ezebilo's hustle and rebounding were key in keeping the Apaches in the game.
Kyra Anderson added 11 points and 8 rebounds. Her ability to stay active on the glass helped create crucial second-chance opportunities, and her presence on both ends of the floor was a valuable asset for the team.
Monica Bottley contributed 8 points, 3 rebounds, and 6 assists. Bottley made a significant impact at the free-throw line, converting 6-of-8 attempts. While her shooting was less than ideal (1-of-8), her playmaking and court vision were essential in facilitating the offense.
Da'Lonna Choice provided solid support with 4 points, 3 rebounds, and 3 assists in 24 minutes. Her energy and playmaking were important for moving the ball and maintaining offensive flow.
Team Performance:
As a team, TJC faced shooting struggles, hitting 40% from the field (24-of-60) and just 27.3% from three-point range (3-of-11). Free-throw shooting was a bit better, with the team converting 56.3% (9-of-16). Despite these challenges, the Apaches managed to fight hard throughout the game.
TJC will look to bounce back this Saturday as they host Angelina College for Sophomore Day at 2 p.m. The Apaches will be looking to build on their individual and collective performances in hopes of securing a crucial victory.
