Temple Classic Recap: Apaches Fall to Temple, Bounce Back Against Cisco

Temple, TX -The Apaches wrapped up their run at the Temple Classic with a tough 64-73 loss to Temple and a hard-fought 60-55 victory over Cisco. On Day One of the classic, the Apaches were unable to overcome the Leopards. Despite leading after the first quarter with a 17-14 advantage, and maintaining a 31-29 lead at halftime, the Apaches were outscored 15-29 in the third quarter, which they couldn't recover from in the final period.

Notable performances included Grace Exebilo, who posted an impressive 20 points and 19 rebounds, and Monica Bottley, who added 16 points and 3 assists. However, the team faced challenges, including the absence of starter Kyra Anderson, who is currently on Injured Reserve, and a high turnover count, with 32 turnovers in the game.

On Day Two, the Apaches rebounded with a narrow 60-55 win over Cisco College. The Apaches led after the first quarter, 19-17, but struggled in the second, scoring just 9 points compared to Cisco's 13, leaving the score at 30-28 in favor of Cisco at halftime. However, the Apaches came alive in the third quarter, outscoring the Wranglers 24-14. Despite a strong push by Cisco in the fourth, scoring 11 points, the Apaches held on with only 8 points of their own, securing the win and ending the weekend on a positive note.

Day Two standouts included Grace Exebilo, who contributed 14 points and 16 rebounds, with 7 offensive and 9 defensive rebounds on both sides of the court. Taler Thornton also had a standout performance, posting 16 points, 8 rebounds, and 3 assists.

The Lady Apaches will return to action on Thursday, December 12th, against Mississippi Gulf in another two-day classic. Tune in to the game at 5:30 pm.
