Tyler, TX – A Big Weekend for Softball: Apaches Remain Undefeated

The Apaches had an impressive opening weekend, remaining undefeated by sweeping both Hill College and Blinn College. With the wins, the Apaches are now 8-0.

Day 1 – Game 1

The Apaches kicked off their Friday doubleheader with a dominant 15-2 victory over Hill College, followed by an 8-3 win in the second game. In the first game, the Apaches finished with 15 runs, 8 hits, and just 1 error. Mallory Kniffen and Sydney Farmer each recorded 2 hits, while Ileana Hernandez contributed a double. Farmer also earned 4 RBIs in the game.

In the circle, Kearston Gooch showcased her skills, pitching 3 innings and facing 12 batters with 51 pitches, 30 of which were strikes. Toni Gabaldon followed with 2 innings, facing 11 batters and throwing 36 pitches, 19 of which were strikes. The Apaches ended the game in 5 innings, more than 8 runs ahead of Hill College.

Game 2

The Apaches continued their strong performance in the second game, starting with 2 runs in the first inning. Hill College responded with 1 run in the second, but the Apaches answered back in the third inning, with Sydney Farmer hitting a home run. TJC added 3 more runs in the fourth, highlighted by a double from Jolie Bazan. In the fifth inning, a sacrifice fly by Ky-Li Alonzo allowed a run, and in the sixth, Gutierrez grounded out to third, bringing Bazan home.

Sara Phillips earned the win, entering the game with 75 pitches, 56 strikes, and quickly taking care of the remaining batters. Phillips struck out 9 batters and allowed only 1 hit and 1 walk.

Day 2 – Game 1

The Apaches kept up the momentum on Day 2, defeating Blinn College 11-1 in 5 innings. The team had 10 hits, including 3 doubles by Piper Morton, Daniela Gutierrez, and Ky-Li Alonzo. The Apaches exploded for 10 runs in the third inning to seal the victory. Payton Bray led the offense with 3 hits, while Alinna Cruz had 2. Kniffen and Farmer each added 1 hit apiece.

In the circle, Kearston Gooch pitched all 5 innings, facing 20 batters, throwing 67 pitches, 44 of which were strikes. She allowed 7 hits and just 1 run.

Game 2

The Apaches wrapped up their second game of the day with a 13-2 win in 5 innings. The team finished with 7 hits and 1 error. Ileana Hernandez was the star of the game, recording 3 hits and 3 RBIs, including 2 home runs. Piper Morton also hit a home run, driving in 2 RBIs.

Sarah Phillips pitched all 5 innings, allowing 4 hits, 2 earned runs, 1 walk, and striking out 2 batters.
