Tyler, TX- The Apaches kicked off their Region XIV tournament campaign with an impressive win against the Jacksonville Jaguars, finishing the match with a commanding shutout.
TJC displayed their trademark quick and aggressive style, launching numerous attacks and creating several close shots on goal. The Apaches registered a total of 19 shots throughout the game.
The scoring began in the 23rd minute when Yart Van Lieshout headed in a cross from Oscar Bech, putting the Apaches ahead. The Jaguars attempted to respond quickly, nearly equalizing with a counterattack, but Jauguar Jayden Donald's effort fell short.
The first half concluded with a 1-0 lead for the Apaches. In the second half, the team remained relentless, generating more scoring opportunities despite a few missed chances. Their resilience paid off as they continued to press the Jaguars.
Defensively, the Apaches were solid, relying on aggressive positioning and key saves from goalie Alfred Mikkelsen, who made a crucial stop in the 68th minute following a midfield turnover.
The Apaches doubled their lead in the 70th minute, taking advantage of a giveaway outside the penalty area. Carlo Romberg assisted Van Lieshout, who found the net for the second time.
The final nail in the coffin came when Jaguars goalie Chris Martinez fouled an Apache player in the box, resulting in a penalty kick. Adriano Melo stepped up and converted, sealing the victory and ensuring a shutout against Jacksonville.
