Apaches fall in battle of top-ranked squads

Two No. 1-ranked teams were on the pitch at Pat Hartley Field on Tuesday.

The top team from Division III, Richland College, upset the top team from Division I, Tyler Junior College, 2-1, on a late goal.

The Thunder Ducks improved to 3-1 on the season.

The Apaches took a 1-0 lead on Ramario Thompson's goal. He scored on a corner kick from Shaun Stocker. After tying the game at 1-1 just before halftime, the Thunder Ducks scored with 2:46 to go in the game.

"We've got a lot of work to do," TJC coach Steve Clements said. "I wasn't pleased at all. There was a lack of effort."

The Apaches (1-1) return to play on Saturday, hosting Johnson County (Kansas). The match has a 7 p.m. start.
