Apaches Host Cisco College for Breast Cancer Awareness Pink Out Game

By Chase Upton

Tyler, TEXAS- Tyler Junior College's No. 15 nationally ranked football team will host Cisco College at 5 p.m. Oct. 19 as TJC has its annual pink out game to promote breast cancer awareness.

This showdown will be a battle between the top two teams in the Southwest Junior College Football Conference as Cisco comes into this one with a 3-1 conference record, 3-2 overall, while TJC has an undefeated 4-0 conference record and is 4-2 overall.

The Apaches are coming off a 13-10 double-overtime win over Blinn College which was good for their fourth straight win after starting the season off 0-2.

Cisco College comes into this matchup following a 20-5 loss to New Mexico Military Institute. Cisco was the No.11 team in the country heading into that game and wasn't able to score a touchdown on NMMI, whom Tyler defeated 21-10.

Heading into their fourth home game, the Apache defense has allowed 15.8 points per game this season, ranking 10th nationally, while also leading the country with 32 sacks. A major strength of Tyler's defense is their stellar sophomore linebacker duo, Darion White leads the nation in tackles per game at 12.7 and William Cornelson follows with 11.5.

Tyler won last year's contest between these two in a game that current sophomore quarterback Josh Thomas logged 275 all-purpose yards and three touchdowns en route to a 38-28 victory for the Apaches. Thomas won't be suiting up for this matchup as he recovers from reconstructive surgery on his ankle.

With a win against Cisco, TJC will automatically earn a SWJCFC semi-final berth, whether they host that semi-final or not will depend on how the final standings pan out.
