CHRISTUS Trinity Mother Frances named Official Health Care Partner for Tyler Junior College Athletes

Tyler, Texas, October 29, 2022– A new partnership between Tyer Junior College (TJC) and CHRISTUS Mother Frances will focus on the health and wellness of the Apache Belles, Apache Band and the more than 250 student-athletes representing TJC in The National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA).

“We’re honored to team up with TJC to champion the whole athlete in body, mind and spirit. We have a vision of creating a healthier and more active community and are honored to support schools, programs, and people who are imagining the possibilities of that goal,” explained Jason Proctor, President of CHRISTUS Trinity Mother Frances Health System.

The four-year partnership, which recently went into effect, makes CHRISTUS Mother Frances the Official Health Care Partner for TJC Athletics. CHRISTUS Trinity Clinic physicians with expertise in injury prevention, sports medicine, and orthopedic surgery will serve as team doctors. Athletes also will be able to receive sports physicals, see primary care physicians, and access other health care services.

“Apache Athletics is thrilled to announce our sports medicine partnership with CHRISTUS Trinity Mother Frances. From the state of the art facilities, high quality sports medicine care and athletic training, CHRISTUS is truly committed to providing our student-athletes with responsive, top-quality care,” said Eddy McGuire, TJC’s Head Athletic Trainer. “Jim Rapp, Dr. Hobbs, Dr. Tabola, Dr. Karagozian and Joseph Ayers have exceeded our expectations as they offer invaluable support in preparing our student-athletes to compete and after they return from injury. This partnership is a step in the right direction for TJC in continuing to compete as a championship junior college athletic program.”

“Effective care that quickly identifies an issue, repairs damage, and develops a rehab program that quickly returns an athlete to the field or court is essential. We live for those moments in which we can do this and provide hope and healing to those we serve,” said William Hobbs, MD, Orthopedic Surgery Specialist at CHRISTUS Mother Frances  “We want anyone who comes to see us to be able to get back to the top of their game.”

CHRISTUS Mother Frances also has a team of athletic trainers and physical therapists who will work side-by-side with the physicians to support TJC Athletics and its vision to be a premier institution of higher education recognized for its academic and workforce programs, student life, and community engagement.

“Our athletic trainers, caregivers, mobile clinics and facilities provide athletes the support they need to excel. Whether it’s designing health and wellness programs to prepare athletes for the rigors of a season or working to overcome the challenge of an injury, our team offers compassionate service and support,” said Jim Rapp, Director of Sports Medicine at CHRISTUS Trinity Mother Frances Health System.

The good news for the community, you don’t have to be a professional or part of a collegiate team to have access to the best orthopedic and sports medicine physicians and facilities.

“We’re available to anyone who might need our care. Our partnership with TJC is an important one to us because it shows the trust we’ve been able to build within this community to work with some of the best so we can be at our best,” said Rapp.
