Men's Basketball Wins Home Opener

Five Apaches hit in double figures as Tyler Junior College opened its basketball season with a 101-80 victory over the Brookhaven College Bears on Friday in the Jimmy Butler Classic at Wagstaff Gymnasium.

In the first game, Southwestern Christian defeated CYM Academy 100-63.

The Classic, named after the former Apache and current Chicago Bull, continues Saturday. In the first game, Brookhaven plays CYM Academy at 2 p.m. with the Apaches taking on SW Christian at 4 p.m.

In the win over the Bears, point guard Todd Eaglin led with 21 points, while three freshmen — Levi Yancy of White Oak, Dominique Shaw of Lufkin and Faith Pope of Mount Pleasant, Iowa — added 14 points apiece.

Jon Alexander, the returning forward from Toronto, added 12 points.
